Employment

Factory Worker at Riverway Foods:*** Responsibilities: Throughout my time at University, I spent my Christmas and summer breaks working at Riverway Foods Ltd. My duties and responsibilities varied each time as I worked in different departments all over the factory, from the very beginning of the production process to the very end, all whilst maintaining the highest of hygienic and safety standards. The first means of production was in the form of the butchery, working first-hand in the early stages of the product development. Following this, I worked in the grinding process with heavy machinery. This came before working in the hygiene department to maintain the general cleanliness of the designated areas that week. Lastly, was the packing and production department, being a part of an assembly line to place the product into its appropriate container ready to be placed for delivery.*** Skills Provided: Working within a factory environment in general has allowed me to learn fundamental lessons in not only health and safety, but also how to work quickly and effectively whilst maintaining it. The factory environment allowed me to advance my skills in workplace communication, knowing who to speak to, how and when. The fluctuation in my specific job roles means I’m no stranger to having to develop new skills and responsibilities at work, it’s something I welcome, there was always more to learn which overall enhanced my performance and job satisfaction. Every now and then, when a new member of staff joined, I would take the responsibility to help train them and explain vital procedure needed to work effectively, it was a responsibility I always accepted, helping new staff feel comfortable and well-equipped. Throughout my work I would come across various different forms of Personal Protective Equipment and objects requiring peak safety procedure, using these taught me valuable skills in taking on responsibility and wielding it safely for not only my benefit, but for the benefit of all of my colleagues. The responsibilities I held at work, even the small, I always took seriously, which I feel benefited my overall performance and work ethic.
